Professor Dąbrowski Presented the EU Policy on Consumer Protection
Daniel Dąbrowski, professor at the University of Szczecin, delivered open lectures on the topic 'Law of Consumers Protection in the European Union' at the Faculty of Law of Northern University on April 4-6 as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching Assignment (STA) programme. During the three-day lecture, the Polish lecturer presented the main objectives of the consumer policy of the European Union, the issues of liability for defective and dangerous products, drawing parallels between the policies and protection mechanisms adopted in the United States and the European Union.
On the first day of the lecture, the landmark cases of Gladys Escola vs Coca Cola Bottling Co., Liebeck vs McDonald's Restaurants, as well as the principles of liability and the statue of limitations were presented and discussed. On the second and third days, Professor Dąbrowski spoke about of the main aspects of the right to be informed, commercial communication, data protection, distance and off-premises contracts, unlawful provision and unfair advertising, which are considered key elements in the consumer protection mechanisms, citing examples from the Dannon, Red Bull, New Balance and Olay cases.
At the end of the course, D. Dąbrowski answered the questions of the participants, conducted an online knowledge test and awarded the winners with books.
